Topic: Problem with Multiskin Posted: 29 May 2007 at 5:37pm |
I just installed WWF, multiskin, and 4 new skins. The interface for multiskin looks correct but whenever a select a new skin it logs me out. I believe I have followed all of the instructions on your page.
My skins are all in a skins/ directory so my edited asp fife looks like this: ' BlackOrange Skin '========== sarySiteSkins(4,1) = "BlackOrange" sarySiteSkins(4,2) = "skins/BlackOrange/forum_images/" sarySiteSkins(4,3) = "skins/BlackOrange/css_styles/" Any advice would be appreciated. |

I think the problem was on my computer. My users reported that there was no problem on their end. I went through and purged my temp files/cookies/etc and now it works fine. I wonder if it had something to do with the cookie left by the default admin login that you have to do at the initial setup.

Alright, so somehow it has happened again on a different computer. I
have done everything i can remember doing before but nothing seems to
work. I also have lost some of my admin functions (for instance I can
not delete topics) but only on the one computer.
I simply do not know where to go at this point |

More information:
It isn't affecting everybody; some people can change thier skin some cannot. If they cannot change thier skin it will always log them out when they try. It is not based on account either. I can change my skin on my laptop but not my desktop, even though my laptop was the computer affected in the original post. It also seems to be affecting some mod functions. When I try to delete a post on my desktop I get kicked for lack of privliges, but I can do the same thing on my laptop with no trouble. |

I wouldn't think it would affect it either, but it is the only modification I am using and it didn't do anything like this before installing it so it is all I can think of. If you have any thoughts on other culprits I would be happy to hear them.
Anyway, my forum is forum.wickedplayers.com, it is a forum for my guild in fallen sword. I typically use Firefox 2, but I have also had the problem with IE and Firefox 1. At the same time I am having the problem I don't have the problem on other browsers of the exact same version. I am using cookies to store the data. I hope that helps. Like I said, I can't think of anything else that could be causing it, but if you have any ideas I will try whatever you come up with. |

It appears the problem is down to you using Sessions to track users, rather than the usual cookie.
I don't think the mod preserves the session, meaning you get logged out. If sessions are not important to you it might be a good idea to go back to cookies, if how ever you need to use sessions over cookies then you will need to remove the mod until I release a fix for this. |

if you look at the address bar when you are on your own forum you will notice it looks like this:
http://forum.wickedplayers.com/default.asp?SID=d28cf42z9zce23aa4b99e58a9a7cff81 the part in red is your current SessionID - and basically what happens is, the forum puts this SessionID into every link so that it knows its you. if you we're to give someone the link they could potentially be logged in as you, as the SessionID is used to track you and know who you are. The problem is, is that the Mod doesnt perserve the SessionID (part in red) when you choose a skin. meaning you get a new SessionID and thus treated as a new user ..... ie signed out. so if you set this for a reason, maybe to fix a problem you was having you will need to remove the mod untill i can do some testing and get the mod to perserve the SessionID, if how ever you dont need it then you will need to turn it off to stop the mod logging you out. |

Huh, I didn't know that. That wasn't anything I set up on purpose, it must be something in the board settings that is either default or I changed by mistake. If I can't figure out how to switch it (of if I do and that doesn't solve it) I will let you know.
Thanks for the help Edited by memcgee - 06 Jun 2007 at 2:05pm |
